The objectives of BSc course
The BSc course in Biomolecular and Industrial Biotechnology (L-2 degree class) is aimed at training Industrial Biotechnologists. Through a concrete and formative multidisciplinary path that includes experimental laboratory as a substantial component, the technical-scientific competences are provided to be able to use biological systems, interpreted at a molecular and cellular level, to design and produce new biotechnology products and to develop new ecocompatible bioprocesses.
The emerging role of biotechnology in many production sectors (from bioplastics to biofuels, from innovative biomaterials to biocatalysts) and in sectors of service (such as bioremediation, quality control of food chains, protection of the environment) requires a multidisciplinary preparation, which integrates disciplines such as chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology of fermentation, process technologies, thermodynamics and transport phenomena, enzymology.
Many teaching courses rely on laboratory experiences. For internship and thesis activities, the student is assigned to a Tutor, professor of the university or external figure (in this case assisted by an internal Tutor), as reference of the student for the critical review of the experimental results and the preparation of the elaborate. The BSc course is based on a rational training organization, which takes advantage of the constant availability of the teaching staff and laboratories, as well as the constantly updated online calendar of the training activities and all necessary information.
The BSc course resides in the University Campus of Monte Sant’Angelo, where the frontal teaching activity and laboratory training take place.
Regulation of the BSc course:
"The Regulation is the document that illustrates the entire training course, lasting 3 years, offered to the enrolled students.
The students will refer to the Regulation in force in the academic year of student’s registration (1styear registration). In the case of subsequent amendments to regulations, these will have no effect for the students already registered. "
• Students enrolled in the academic year 2023-24, will refer to the Regulation
• Students enrolled in the academic year 2018-19, will refer to the Regulation 2014-15: Download the Regulation and the Training Course.
Before the beginning of the second semester, students enrolled in the 1st year of the BSc course in Biomolecular and Industrial Biotechnology will have to participate in the "Placement Test" for the verification of English language proficiency.
The Test is organized by the University Language Center (CLA) and takes place at the CLA center in via Mezzocannone. The Test date will be published on the website on the "Events and News" page.
The registration to the Test is carried out online following the CLA instructions.
Students who do not reach the B1 level will have to follow the English course to be held in the second semester at the teaching facilities of Monte Sant'Angelo. At the end of the course they will undergo a verification Test of the attainment of level B1, acquiring the expected training credits (6 CFU).
